Visit of a delegation from Taiwan
On September 6, 2024, the Minister of the Government of Taiwan, Mr. Ming-Hsin Lin, visited the Security Services Archive with a delegation from the Human Rights and Transitional Justice Department of the Executive Yuan. The main goal of the visit was the exchange and sharing of experience in the field of archives, legal settlement and transformation processes, and international cooperation of memory institutions in democratic countries.
The delegation was welcomed by the director of the Archive, Mr. Miroslav Urbánek, with Mr. Lubomír Augustín, Head of Office and Kamil Nedvědický, First Deputy Director of the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes. The delegation first visited the premises and workplaces of the Archives department in Prague-Braník. Here, the managers presented samples of archival materials and gave an expert presentation on the management of the archival collections of the former Czechoslovak communist intelligence service with a focus on the Far East and China. Subsequently, they visited the digitization and restoration workplace, where the employees showed them examples of damaged archives and their repairs, the digitization system and other work with scanned copies.
The Taiwanese delegation was interested in the functioning of the Archive, processing and making available the materials of the former communist security forces. The legislative and economic framework and other legislative processes on the basis of which the Archive carries out its activities were presented. Last but not least, the working meeting concerned international cooperation and the activities of institutions within the professional organization Platform of European Memory and Conscience.
